活かし、繋ぎ、超える。
pirkamonrayke（ピリカモンライケ）は、「木を活かすこと」を理念に北海道旭川で木製小物の製造を行うササキ工芸が、日本有数の産地と協力し、日本のモノづくりの新たな可能性を世界に提示するプロジェクトブランドです。そのブランドの第一弾である「京都」との産地間連携のコレクションを構成する全てのプロダクトをデザインしています。
このプロジェクトが始まってすぐ、ササキ工芸の工場にお邪魔し彼らのモノづくりを目の当たりにしたとき、その精度の高さに驚きました。木工家具産業の盛んな地で、創業から50年ほどの中で培われた技術は、工芸より工業と呼ぶに相応しいほど精緻なものでした。そんなササキ工芸がこれまでの在り方を見つめ直し、世界に向けて新たに進むべき道を見据え動き出したプロジェクト。
旭川の、北海道の、日本のササキ工芸を世界に提示すること、そしてササキ工芸の個性はもちろん、他の産地との連携を最大限活かすことがテーマでした。そのプロジェクトブランドとして最初に連携する産地が「京都」なのです。
世界に対し、「旭川×京都」という枠組みは、とてつもなく強いメッセージ性を持っていることは言うまでもありません。歴史の中で膨大な時間と人が創り上げてきた技と美の蓄積。それらを活かし、今の世の中に、世界中の人に、しっかりとこの枠組みの魅力を伝えたい。そんな想いからデザインに着手しました。
ササキ工芸の高い木工技術を活かすことはもちろんですが、一方で京都工芸と一言に言ってもその職種と素材は多岐に渡ります。漆塗り、箔押し、蒔絵、金物、截金…。それらを知り、どうのように魅力を活かすか。日本のモノづくりと呼ぶに相応しいデザインとはどのようなものか。そのために、ササキ工芸の持つ木工技術、京都の様々な職種・職人とその技術、国宝や重要文化財といった古くから今に残る日本美術や工芸・民藝に見られる意匠、アイヌの伝統民具とその意匠、現代に求められる機能性。あらゆる視点から多角的に読み解き、試し、一連のコレクションが生まれました。
pirkamonrayke（ピリカモンライケ）とは、アイヌ語で「良い仕事をする」という意味を持った言葉です。
木を活かし、そこに掛け合わせる京都工芸を活かし、日本がこれまで培った美を活かす。その取り組みの中で、時代が、産地が、技が、人が、ひとつの真理で繋がり、共に固定観念や境界といった「これまで」を超えていく。
ササキ工芸の、日本のモノづくりの、新たな可能性を示すコレクションです。

Utilize, connect, and exceed.
pirkamonrayke is a project brand by Sasaki Kougei, a manufacturer of small wooden products in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, based on the principle of "making the most of wood", in cooperation with one of Japan's leading production centers to present the world with new possibilities of Japanese craftsmanship. We are designing all the products that make up the first collection of the brand, which is an inter-production collaboration with Kyoto.
Soon after this project started, We visited the factory of Sasaki Kougei and was amazed at the high precision of their manufacturing. In a place where the woodworking furniture industry is thriving, the skills cultivated in the 45 years since the company's establishment have been so precise that they could be called industrial rather than craft.
Sasaki Kougei, which possesses such wonderful woodworking skills, has started a project to rethink its past ways of doing things and to look for a new way forward to the world.
The theme of the project was to present Asahikawa's, Hokkaido's, and Japan's Sasaki kogei to the world, and to make the most of Sasaki kogei's individuality as well as cooperation with other production areas. Kyoto is the first place where Sasaki kogei will collaborate with the project brand.
It goes without saying that the framework of "Asahikawa x Kyoto" has a tremendously strong message to the world. The accumulation of skills and beauty that people have created over a vast amount of time in history. I want to make the most of them and convey the appeal of this framework to the world today and to people all over the world. With this in mind, we started the design process.
Of course, Sasaki kogei's woodworking skills can be utilized, but there is also a wide range of occupations and materials used in Kyoto crafts. Lacquering, foil stamping, maki-e, metalwork, kirigane, and more.... We learned about them and thought about how to make the most of their appeal. What kind of design should be worthy of being called "Japanese manufacturing"? To achieve this goal, we looked at the woodworking techniques of Sasaki Kougei, various craftsmen and their techniques in Kyoto, traditional Japanese designs, the treasures housed in the Shosoin Repository, Japanese art, traditional Ainu folk tools and their designs, and the functionality required in the modern age. A series of collections were created by reading and testing from various perspectives.
The word "pirkamonrayke" is an Ainu word meaning “doing good work.”
Making the most of wood, making the most of Kyoto craftsmanship, and making the most of the beauty that has been cultivated in Japan. Through these efforts, the times, production areas, techniques, and people will be connected by a single truth, and together they will transcend the stereotypes and boundaries of the past. I believe that this collection will be a beacon of light that will illuminate a new path for Sasaki kogei and Japanese craftsmanship.
